How to use Instincts in Gasti to understand your money before it's too late.
Gasti Instintos analyzes your transactions, categories, budgets, and spending patterns to show you useful signals while there is still time to act. It can identify category changes, repeated expenses, or unusual spending rates. It does not make decisions for you: it provides context to help you understand your month.
Why do we usually understand our spending too late?
One of the hardest parts of managing money is not doing the math. It is noticing changes in time.
Sometimes you are not spending badly. You are simply spending faster than in previous months. A category that seemed under control begins to grow, or several small expenses add up to a significant amount.
The problem is that many financial tools show you what happened when there is little room left to act: the summary after the month ends, the chart after the money is spent, and the balance after many decisions have already been made.
Gasti Instintos helps you identify those signals while you still have time to decide what to do.
What is Gasti Instintos?
Instintos is a feature that analyzes the information recorded in Gasti to identify patterns, changes, and transactions that may require your attention.
Your money leaves signals:
- Changes in your spending rate.
- Categories growing faster than usual.
- Recurring merchants or expenses.
- Differences between budgeted and actual spending.
- Transactions that do not match your usual behavior.
Instintos does not try to tell you how to live or make decisions for you. Its purpose is to turn scattered data into observations that are easier to understand.
Instead of waiting until the end of the month, it can help you recognize what is changing while there is still time to review or adjust.
What information does Instintos use?
Instintos uses the information available in your Gasti account, including:
- Transactions.
- Categories.
- Accounts.
- Budgets.
- Budgeting buckets.
- Recurring expenses.
- Spending behavior recorded during the month.
The quality of the signals depends on the available information. The more complete and accurately categorized your transactions are, the more context Gasti has to interpret what is normal for you.
Using this data, Instintos tries to answer questions that are more useful than “How much did I spend?”:
- Is this spending level normal for me?
- Am I spending faster than in previous months?
- Which category is changing?
- Is an expense repeating more often than expected?
- Could a budgeting bucket run out before the end of the month?
- Is there a transaction I should review?
The goal is to prevent you from having to open a spreadsheet, filter categories, and compare months manually to find these differences.
What types of signals can Instintos show?
An Instinto is not a verdict or an instruction. It is a signal based on the available data.
You do not always need to do something when one appears. Sometimes understanding what is happening is enough. In other cases, it may help you adjust a budget, correct a transaction, or review a habit.
“You are spending faster”
This signal focuses on your spending rate, not only the total amount.
Using 80% of a budget by day 28 is not the same as using it halfway through the month. Even if the amount is identical, the context is different.
Instintos can help you identify this difference and show that, if you maintain the same pace, you may reach the limit before the month ends.
That does not mean it will necessarily happen. It is an observation based on the information recorded up to that point.
“This category has changed”
Sometimes the important change is not in your total spending, but in a specific category.
Transportation, housing, and utilities may remain stable while food delivery increases significantly. Groceries, entertainment, or subscriptions may also begin to represent a larger share of your spending.
Identifying changes by category makes it easier to understand what is driving the overall result.
“This expense keeps repeating”
Some expenses seem unimportant because they appear separately:
- A coffee.
- An app.
- A delivery fee.
- A taxi ride.
- A small purchase.
- A subscription.
Instintos can help you identify these repetitions so you do not have to rely exclusively on your memory.
A recurring expense is not necessarily a problem. The signal simply allows you to recognize the pattern and decide whether it still makes sense for you.
“You may want to review this transaction”
Not every signal is about excessive spending. Some can help you keep your financial information organized.
For example:
- A transaction may be incorrectly categorized.
- An expense may belong in a different budgeting bucket.
- An income transaction may need review.
- A subscription may appear under a different description.
- A transaction may not match your usual behavior.
When transactions are properly organized, your budgets, reports, buckets, and future analyses also become more accurate.
An example of how Instintos works during the month
Suppose you begin the month normally.
You record some expenses through WhatsApp, others arrive from connected accounts, and you also upload receipts. Gasti categorizes the transactions and updates your budgets and buckets.
Halfway through the month, your overall balance does not appear concerning. However, Instintos detects that the Eating Out category is growing faster than in previous months and could reach its limit before the end of the month if the same pace continues.
That does not mean you have done something wrong.
It means you now have information that can help you decide.
You can:
- Temporarily reduce this type of spending.
- Move money from another budgeting bucket.
- Check whether any transactions were incorrectly categorized.
- Confirm that it was an exceptional expense.
- Maintain the current distribution because you chose to prioritize something different this month.
What matters is receiving the signal while there is still time to evaluate your options.
What can you do after receiving an Instinto?
Your response does not need to be drastic. Depending on the signal, you can:
- Review a category.
- Adjust a budgeting bucket.
- Modify a budget.
- Correct a transaction.
- Check whether an expense was temporary or has become recurring.
- Create a Rule to automatically categorize something that repeats.
- Make no changes while gaining a better understanding of the month.
The last option is also valid.
Sometimes information does not require immediate action. It simply replaces a vague concern with a clearer explanation.
Can Instintos be wrong?
Yes. An Instinto is an observation generated from the available information, not an absolute truth.
A signal may be less accurate when transactions are missing, a transaction is incorrectly categorized, or part of your financial activity takes place outside Gasti.
For this reason, each Instinto should be treated as a starting point for review, not as an order.
If something does not match your situation, you can check the related transactions, correct the information, and continue using Gasti normally.
Does it work when you have just started using Gasti?
Yes, although less context will initially be available.
As you record more transactions, Gasti gains more information for comparing periods and recognizing your usual patterns.
This can help distinguish between an expense that is normal for you and a change that deserves attention.
You do not need to wait several months to begin, but the signals can become more contextual as your history grows.
How is Instintos different from a report?
A report usually summarizes what happened during a period: how much you spent, how much money came in, and how transactions were distributed.
Instintos tries to highlight something relevant within that information, particularly while it is still happening.
A report may show how much you spent on food during the month. An Instinto may indicate that this category is growing faster than during previous periods.
The two tools serve different purposes and can complement each other.
What are the limitations of Instintos?
To use Instintos properly, it is also important to understand what it does not do:
- It does not know about transactions that were not recorded in Gasti.
- It cannot interpret every transaction perfectly.
- It does not replace your decisions.
- It does not guarantee savings.
- It does not automatically turn every signal into an action.
- It should not be treated as an exact prediction.
- It does not replace professional financial advice.
The purpose is not for Gasti to think for you. It is to help you think using clearer and more timely information.
Understand what is changing before the month ends
Managing your money should not depend solely on checking your balance and hoping it will be enough.
Your balance shows how much money remains, but it does not always explain which category changed, which expense keeps repeating, or why the month is progressing differently.
Instintos aims to turn transactions into signals and signals into context so you can make better-informed decisions.
It is not about constantly monitoring every expense. It is about no longer finding out too late.
To receive more useful signals, keep your transactions, categories, and budgets up to date. You can also organize your limits with Gasti Budgets, distribute your money using the budgeting buckets method, and automate recurring transactions with Gasti Rules.
